The short version
Scrimshaw has no account, no sign up and no server of its own. Your voyage is a small file on your phone and it is never uploaded anywhere. We cannot see your game, because we never receive it.
The one exception is advertising, and it is entirely optional. If you never tap an advert button, nothing leaves your device at all.
What stays on your phone
Everything the game is made of. Your scrap, your modules, your crew, how far you have travelled, how many crossings you have finished, and whether you have bought the upgrade. All of it lives in the app's own storage and is removed when you delete the app.
There is no cloud save in this version. That is a deliberate trade: it means a lost phone means a lost voyage, and it also means there is no copy of your game on anybody's server.
Adverts
Scrimshaw never shows an advert you did not ask for. There are no banners, no adverts between screens and nothing that interrupts play. The only advert in the game is a video you can choose to watch to double what you earned while the app was closed, and it is always optional.
When you choose to watch one, the advert is served by a third-party advertising network rather than by us. To do that, the network receives technical information from your device, which typically includes a device advertising identifier, your approximate region, your device model and operating system version, and the fact that an advert was shown. We do not receive your game data, your name or your email, because we never ask for any of them.
iOS asks your permission before any app is allowed to use the advertising identifier for tracking. If you decline, the game works exactly the same and the adverts still function; they are simply less targeted. You can change that answer at any time under Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking.
Buying the upgrade removes the advert option entirely and grants the bonus permanently, so nothing is sent anywhere after that.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple Account. The app asks Apple whether this device owns the upgrade and Apple answers yes or no; that is the whole exchange.
Children
Scrimshaw is rated for a general audience and collects no personal information directly. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly gather anything from them.
Analytics
There are none. No analytics service, no crash reporter, no attribution SDK and no tracking pixels. We do not know how many people finish a crossing, which is a real cost to us and the trade we chose.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the date at the top changes and the new version is published here before the release that needs it.
